Kalli's Kritique

Let me introduce myself, my name is Kalli and I'm obsessed with all things Eminence. I am an Aesthetician and working Mom of two who knows how important taking care of your skin is. It's the first thing people see and unhealthy skin affects everything. I'm here to help and inform you with my reviews of the latest and greatest Eminence products.

My love affair with Eminence Organics started over a decade ago. The products are environmentally friendly, using no preservatives, chemicals or animal by-products. They're handmade in Hungary with fresh, locally grown ingredients by people who put pure care and dedication into their work. What's not to like?

With my background in skincare and research into product ingredients, I know what I like and what I don't like in a product, and I'm going to give you my honest opinion on the products I review. I care very much about what goes on and into my skin and I'm here to help you get the very best products for your skin, as well.

My Thoughts ...

The Eminence Sun Defense Minerals are not a new concept, yet so few people are in the know about this fantastic product! It's easy to dispense, (I have a trick below) easy to travel with, and can be used on everyone, including babies and children!

This is a staple in my skincare arsenal year round. It's so easy to brush on, it's light, and doesn't clog your pores. Depending on the shade used, it also makes for a beautiful powder finish as makeup, leaving you with a dewy glow. Darker shades are perfect to use as a bronzer.

There are five shades in the SPF 30 Sun Defense Minerals line. They range from No.0 to No.5 that go from light to dark. (See photo to right. Mobile users, photo is below.) Personally, I carry a No.0 and No.1 - Honey Apple in my purse or diaper bag depending on how much my skin's colouring has changed depending on how much sun I've gotten. I typically use No.0 on my kids. It's called a translucent shade but I find it does have a slight, light colour so I wouldn't recommend this shade for a tan skin tone as it's not a "true" translucent. Sometimes, I use this as a quick fix makeup to cover dark circles and even the skin tone on my face when I want to look fresh but not apply full face makeup. A little minerals and mascara goes a long way.

Expecting a newborn? I had my second child in the middle of the summer and it can be stressful trying to keep them out of the sun's harmful rays. This gave me so much peace of mind. Sunscreen isn't typically advised for babies under six months of age but because Eminence uses physical barriers as opposed to chemical barriers, nothing is being absorbed into the skin which makes it perfectly safe to use on your baby's delicate skin. It's also super quick to apply so you should be able to dust it all over your toddler before they can escape! I like to use the Tropical Vanilla Body SPF on the body and then apply this product to my kids faces, ears, and neck. This also avoids the dreaded sunscreen in the eyes fiasco that happens when the kids touch their faces then rub their eyes, causing pain because of the creamy sunscreen making its way into their eyes.

A quick tip:

Something I've heard from other people and only experienced once or twice myself is that the dispenser doesn't work properly. This is a common problem with an easy fix. I don't recommend "pumping" this product. Even though it comes with a pump at the top end to dispense product, it's not needed. I simply hold the tube and hit it against the side of my other hand. You should see a puff of powder come out of the end of the brush. That means it's ready to use. Pumping it too much can clog the dispenser causing frustration and that's made people hesitant to recommend this product to friends or to purchase again. I promise you, once you perfect this trick (a very easy thing to get down) you'll be reaching for this product before every sun encounter!

Finishing tip:

Spritz your favourite Eminence toner after applying this sunscreen and it become water resistant! Seriously. I've worn this at the cottage with toner over top and been sunburn free the whole weekend! Even my friends were flabbergasted. They all wanted to use it!

I hope you enjoy this sunscreen as much as I do. Remember, it's great year round because not only are you protecting from daily sun exposure, you're supplying your skin with antioxidants to keep it vibrant all year long.
